words of wisdom week 2: the glossy life

17 May 2013

Hi ANC readers! Alyssa from The Glossy Life here. When Ashley invited me to share my words of wisdom on her blog, I was thrilled. I’m a big “mantra” person–I rely on them to pep me up, calm me down and set me on the right path. It was hard to narrow down my words of wisdom to one phrase–I’ve been so inspired by different quotes over the years–but I finally landed on this Jack Kerouac quote, knowing it really summed up my life philosophy well.

“Be in love with your life. Every minute of it.” Easier said then done, right? We all have the tough days–the days where we need a cry, or wonder whether or not we’re on the right path, doing the right thing, loving the right people. There’s always that worry, or that lingering sadness that plagues us. We’re human–it’s only natural. But I’m a perpetually happy person–a person who believes that what you put out into the world, finds you again eventually.

To me, to wallow is a waste of energy. I allow myself to have my sad days, my hard days, but then I pick up and move forward, knowing how lucky I am to lead the life I do, surrounded by the people I am. A life well led is one filled with happiness, love, kindness and grace, even when things get you down. So my words of wisdom: project that, and before you know it you’ll be loving life. Every. Single. Minute.

Unless you're a weirdo robot, it's abnormal to go through life without a few struggles. I've had quite a few crazy uphill battles...even some "Why Me" moments.. but this quote reminds me that everything happens for a reason. I know I know that sounds so cliche, but I really believe it's true. Whenever sh$t hits the fan, I have to remember, that it's going to get better and more than likely, I will grow from this experience. I'm sure you've had moments where it seems almost impossible to be positive and it seems easier to give up, but if you just keep trying, good will come out of it.

Thank you, Ashley for letting me share my words of wisdom and I hope you all remember to stay positive!

words of wisdom week 2: long distance loving

15 May 2013
Hi there! It's {av} from {long distance loving}--happily filling in for Ashley while she's away! Though I share quotes on a regular clip on my blog, I had a tough time narrowing down which quote I'd share in Ashley's words of wisdom series. I was one of those geeky teenagers who had an angelfire website devoted to her favorite sayings, so it's safe to say I've had a lifelong love affair with words. After a long debate, this quote from Theodore Roosevelt won out...

Admittedly, I struggled a lot when my husband {cv} and I moved to Rhode Island, many hours away from our friends and family. I was so happy to finally be in the same place as {cv}, but at the same time, I felt completely alone. He worked {and still works} crazy hours, so I found myself with loads of unexpected solo time. After spending hours reading other blogs, I decided to start my own and, as cliché as it sounds, my life changed in amazing and unexpected ways.

When I started my blog, I made a conscious decision to be happy in Providence. I couldn't change where we were, so I found the online space to be the perfect substitute. Discovering the blogosphere opened doors for me in New England--and beyond.

Keep Teddy's wisdom in mind today. Your happiness is in your hands, I promise you this! Thank you so much for having me, Ashley! xoxo {av} | {long distance loving}

words of wisdom week 2: a charming occasion

14 May 2013
Hi friends, my name is Joelle and I'm here from Something Charming. Ashley asked me to share some words of wisdom with all of you today, and I knew exactly what I wanted to say!

If you know my story at all, you know that I struggled for a little while with trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. About a year and a half ago, however, I made the decision to start my own wedding planning and design company, A Charming Occasion. There are a lot of extremely talented and creative people in this industry, and it took me a long time to realize that there's room for all of us! But I can't just be stagnant; it's all about who you know and networking with the people you want to work with. If I've learned anything in this past year and a half, it's that I am good enough. I just have to prove it, and once I do, I will be recognized.

If you have the passion, the talent will follow. Just do it. Don't do it half-heartedly, or it will show. You just have to be so good that they can't ignore you.

Whatever is Lovely.

This little vignette is in my bedroom right next to my desk area. While not everything in this world is lovely (in fact, far from it), I try to make an effort to choose joy and create a little bit of lovely every day.  Whether this be buying a bunch of tulips from the market, sending a friend a note, listening to my favorite songs while doing homework, or totally indulging in that cupcake I've been craving...yep, that's all lovely. As a soon-to-be graduate with a Bachelor's in interior design, I'm constantly creating. It's my happy place; an escape from the not-so-beautiful things of this world. If you seek out beauty and focus on whatever is lovely, you will be so full of joy. Promise :)

Thank you for having me here, ANC! I adore you and your blog. I'm honored to be apart of this series!

xoxo
