throw pillow heaven

19 June 2013
so, as you guys know, james and i have been working on prettying up our little home. we got a new couch a couple of years ago and have had a knit pillow and inexpensive finds from target accessorizing it since (pictured here).

i've been eyeing new throw pillows and bookmarked a few options on pinterest and etsy, but didn't have a clear picture of what i wanted. well, we finally looked through all the options and put together a combination of this lilac pillow, this emerald ikat pillow, and this royal blue lumbar pillow.

i'm kind of really excited and can't wait for them to arrive! here's how they'll look in our current space:

what do you think? do you have any pillow combos you've been eyeing?

revisiting 2013 intentions

17 June 2013
since we're mid-way through the year, i wanted to check-in and revisit my intentions for 2013. i wrote intentions instead of resolutions because i liked the idea of creating goals for the type of year i wanted to have, rather than a list of year-long to-do items.

just like i'm trying to shift the focus from working out x times a week to living a healthy lifestyle, my 2013 intentions are more about creating balance and happiness than crossing things off a list.

while there is always room for improvement, i'm happy to say that i have been able to find more balance and time to unplug and reconnect by:

  • committing to no more than 2-3 blog posts per week
  • frequently going on outings without my phone
  • reading and writing more often
  • going to yoga more often
  • taking a week-long, technology-free vacation with my husband
  • working on creative projects and DIYs

i'm slowly, but surely redefining what productivity and success means to me both professionally and at home, which has stemmed from examining what i'm passionate about, what i'm good at, and how i want to spend my time. i don't have everything figured out and, at times i still feel like i don't know what i want to be when i grow up, but simply bringing awareness to it is helping me gain clarity. i'm also putting more emphasis on caring for myself and my relationships. i believe self-care is key to a happy life and healthy relationships and i plan to write more about it in the near future.

if anything, my intentions for the year have made me realize that we have to give ourselves permission to create the kind of life that will fulfill us. even if that means paving new ways and challenging societal norms and familial pressure. it means taking risks, pursuing our passions, and carving out our own definition of a meaningful life.

bachelorette party details: outfit + decorations

13 June 2013
as you probably know, i love anything that has to do with weddings and that includes bachelorette parties!

the weekend was amazing, but i also had a ton of fun planning out decorations and details with her sister leading up to the party. we wanted to keep things low-key, but still fun and girly and settled on blush and gold colors.

bachelorette party!

the bride-to-be wore blush on our big night out and the rest of us were asked to wear black dreses. since i don't own a black dress appropriate for a summer night out, i went with a studded black faux leather skirt and a plain grey tee. it was the perfect casual, yet edgy vibe for a night out downtown. here's a variation on what i wore:

bachelorette weekend!

11 June 2013

hi, friends! sorry for the silence, but i've been out of town for one of my bff's bridal shower & bachelorette!

we rented a big house for the weekend and decorated with a garland sign, pink peonies, pink balloons, silver & pink crepe paper. it was such a weekend of celebrating the bride-to-be, making new friends, dance parties, and fun cocktails!

how was your weekend?

a stylish front door: brass exterior hardware

05 June 2013
if you saw our most recent diy project (here) or follow me on instagram (here), you know i have a growing obsession with brass hardware.

there is something so modern and luxe about brass fixtures, especially when paired with a crisp white or black. i am already daydreaming about our first home and details like what the front door will look like. i love the idea of a black lacquered door with bright brass hardware.

i've rounded up some of my favorite brass pieces to add glamour and elegance to your front door.

i'm loving the square door bell and the last door handle. which are your favorites?
