writing a fashion and style blog and more importantly, reading the blogs of some pretty stylish ladies, got me thinking a lot about my own personal style. over time, i've realized that i'm most comfortable in simple, classic outfits, and that no, i don't really like wearing heels (i'm already over 5'9" and darn it, they hurt). i end up wearing variations of the same look a lot and buy items i like in multiple colors. i do love dressing up occasionally, but most of the time, i gravitate toward basics that can be mixed and matched.

i think style does and should reflect personality. the times that i've tried to dress cuter or trendier, i feel uncomfortable and not like myself. i like routine and clean, simple designs. i tie my hair in a bun more often than not. i do my makeup the same way most days. i wear my levi's pretty much every weekend. i love to shop, but end up spending the most on basics and investment pieces, like a great bag or trench. i know what works for me and as much as i think a headband with a bow looks great on someone else, it's just not me.

so, ladies and gents, i'm curious: do you have a distinct personal style? has it evolved over time?

Mine is very similar to yours. I could live in a white tee and jeans. Or something equally effortless such as colored pants (have you seen Zara's this season? ahmazing) and a tee. I was known at my previous job as "boot and scarf girl". I like to be chic without trying too hard. I think simple is better. But thats just me!

It's an interesting topic (personal style reflecting who you are). For me, I like to experiment with a variety of trends, but I like basics when I want to be effortless. I always say that I don't really have a personal style yet. Some days, I'll dress pretty distinctly and the stares are clear, but the next I'll blend into a crowd with simplicity. All in all, it's just a matter of what you're comfortable with.

My style: classic, simple, with a little twist from time to time. I also invest in timeless items, seldom do I choose a trendy item that I will not be able to wear next season. The accessories will do the trick for a modern take on my style. And just like you say, as much as I love seeing a purple dress on someone, I will always turn to the LBD, because I know this is who I am and this is the only way I look comfortable.
ps: thank you for the link in the previous post :)

We're soul sisters with personal style -- 9 times out of 10, I go for a simple tee, skinny jeans, and cute flats. I always wish I could branch out and mix it up, but it never works. Happy Monday, my dear!

Jeans, white shirt and fun jewelry is my go to and most comfortable choice. Always flats too - never could wear heels even when younger.

I love this, and not the least because this looks a lot like my closet! I have a very distinct personal style, and a lot of it has to do with my body type and my face-I'm pretty curvy but quite petite, so I stay away from anything designed to emphasis curves, and have found that the boho trends just don't look so great on me! I love women with real personal style, and it's so much more distinctive than someone who translates runway looks well!

It's so funny reading the comments above seeing that everyone prefers a more simple look with minor personal adjustments. I'm exactly on the same page. Many years ago I loved much different make-up, accessories and stuff like that, but that has evolved soon into a simple, comfortable style most of the time (same make-up, bag, hairstyle, earrings, less jewelry). Sometimes I like to look a bit more dressed up with a skirt and heels. Lovely post!

I love the classic pieces you posted .... I'd love to be able to wear more flat shoes but as opposed to you I am 5'2 (still I get myself int o ballerina flats more than once) but in general I think I am mix of casual modern ... not very classic.
PS: Earrings are super cute!

I SO admire how you have pinned down your style - I'm still trying to define "who I am" when it comes to my wardrobe. And BTW - I have that michael kors watch too - isn't it fabulous. It really makes any outfit feel special! xoxo
