hello, friends! sorry for the radio silence the last 4 days and i hope you all fabulous long weekend. my weekend was so much fun and it was primarily due to pulling off a surprise party for the mr.'s 30th birthday in his hometown of door county.
my weekend began by running around for last minute supplies and making sweet treats for the party. i made these no-bake cake batter truffles and they were a huge hit! i also made these healthy chocolate cookie dough bites and they didn't turn out so great - the consistency was off and they tasted a bit too healthy. has anyone else made these with good results? share your secrets!
here is the mr. opening his birthday present from his mom and i. he still had no idea about the party at this point.
and because i have the sweetest mother-in-law, i got to open a present too. a gorgeous jewelry box as a belated birthday present from one of my favorite stores!
even though i'm pretty sure he knew i was up to something, the look on james' face when we yelled "surprise" was priceless. and i have to give a shout-out to the bakery at econofoods - i was not expecting something so cute (and delicious!) from a grocery store bakery, but it came recommended. i sent the baker a color scheme and some inspiration photos and she did a great job.
notice the mismatched numbers? i'm actually pretty proud of that 3. i could only find a bright orange 3 candle, but there was an 8 in blue. i took an exacto knife to it, only to have it crack into three pieces (ironic, huh?). i used tacky glue to put it back together and even though it looks a little janky, at least it's not orange.
happy 30th, my love. see, turning 30 wasn't so bad, was it?
