wedding week: the ceremony

12 November 2012
since next week marks 6 months since our wedding, i wanted to celebrate with a week of pictures! i took you through my planning process with the "wedding details reveal" series and i'm so excited to bring things full circle with pictures from the day. thank you in advance for indulging me and hope you enjoy the photos!

our ceremony took place at one of chicago’s oldest churches, assumption catholic church, and while i was very excited to walk down the aisle of a traditional church, i was anxious about the tradition of someone giving me away. my dad passed away in 2007 and wanting to honor him and his memory, i decided to walk down the aisle by myself.

before approaching altar, i stopped at my mom’s pew so she could lift my veil, which was a really emotional moment for us. for 24 years, i was an only child, until my mom had another baby. our flower girl was actually my little sister, ella!

during the homily, our priest read a letter james and i wrote to our family and friends, which expressed our love and gratitude and explained why it was so meaningful for us to have them there to celebrate with us.

stay tuned for tomorrow's post on the wedding fashion!

The photos are beautiful but your words really touched me. My Dad passed away when I was younger so I had his two brothers walk me down the aisle which was so special for me. You chose something very special too!

You looked absolutely stunning. I lost my dad in December (coming up on a year), and I'm getting married in April. I also lost my mom in August of 2010, so I'm not completely decided about my walk down the aisle yet. It's so sweet that you walked yourself and then your mom lifted your veil. I loovvee the church, so gorgeous! Great colors on the bridesmaids as well! Xo

1. You look absolutely stunning.
2. You are such an adorable couple, it's infectious really.
3. Wow. So much family info/ major changes in that one little post. In a weird way that I hope doesn't creep you out, I actually really enjoyed reading just those few sentences that revealed a lot more about you. I'm so sad to hear about your dad passing away, and I can't tell you how rockstar it was of you to walk yourself down the aisle. Oh, and the new little sis? Intrigued about that as well ;)

Look at you! Wow! Everything is beautiful, but what I love the most are the expressions on your faces!

I love that your mom lifted your veil. My dad died when I was four and when I married my husband I had my little brother (barely younger than me) give me away. It was really powerful and a memory I treasure to this day. :)

Can't wait to see more!
